BOWMAN FIELD SENIOR SQUADRON

The Bowman Field Senior Squadron is part of the Kentucky Wing, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) which is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF). CAP is the civilian arm of the Air Force. It is also a volunteer, non-profit organization. Our squadron and aircraft are located at historic Louisville Bowman Field (LOU). The squadron now meets in the Main Hangar at Louisville Executive Aviation located on Bowman Field (LOU) Bowman Field was Kentucky's first commercial airport and one of the oldest, continuously operating air fields in America. It dates back to 1919. It was also used as a military airfield during World War II.  It is still a very active airport and recently has undergone a number of improvements to keep it up to date. Civil Air Patrol's Mission CAP has three basic missions. They are Emergency Services, Cadet Programs, and Aerospace Education. Emergency Services includes both search and rescue (SAR) missions and disaster relief. This is the primary focus of the KY214. Cadet Programs are more prominent in the composite squadrons which are a mix of adult members and cadets. However, KY 214 is responsible for providing orientation flights (O-rides) to both cadets and AFROTC cadets. And last, CAP is tasked with increasing aerospace knowledge. Another mission undertaken by CAP is being a part of the "war on drugs" through it's counter-narcotics work with federal agencies such as the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), U.S. Customs, etc. Squadron Meetings The squadron meetings are held at our new home at Louisville Executive Aviation's main hangar (formerly Triangle).  The KY214 meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
