News...
- Spring is here and Summer is coming soon. With these great seasons comes a chance to get into the field for ES training and SAREX. NOW is the time to zero in on your ES training. We will concentrate on this training at unit meetings, and you need to do the same on your time. Don’t wait till “the call to move out” is given. Let’s start now…it up to you to be ready!
- Speaking of ES preparation, 050 has just acquired a 10’x10’ pop-up tent that will be used to make a Squadron HQ/Command Post for ES and SAR work. It will hold space for the unit commander and/or IC as well as base set up for unit communications. Look for more on this (to include pictures) coming here soon.
- A reminder that The FLY A TEACHER PROGRAM is in progress now! If you know of a teacher in a public, private, or Home School Co-op that would like to take a flight, all they have to do is join the CAP as an Aerospace Education Member (AEM) to be qualified to take a CAP flight. For those teachers who attend the KY Department of Aviation Teacher’s Institute this summer, the year’s membership as an AEM will be paid by the Dept of Aviation. It’s a $35 value. For info and more details, contact Maj Bob Patterson, through Wing HQ or KY 050.
- Need BDUs? See SM Langford and get yours while they are available. Matter of fact, check your uniforms and get them up to CAP standards to be set for displays and community functions coming this year.
- Reminder…Make sure your address, phone and email information are correct. If your information has changed, come by the office at the next drill and update your data.
- Just in case we missed anybody, you are reminded that you MUST have OPSEC training completed in order to participate in any operational mission, (actual or training), to get promoted or to access eServices. If you need this training, it can be done online.
- Another feature you may not have seen is the “CAP Ribbon Bar Creator”. It will let you simply check off what CAP ribbons you have and it will tell you the order to display them. Go to: http://dafab.no-ip.info/CAPCode/CAPRibbons.htm to use this valuable tool.
- Lastly, after being introduced to the Civil Air Patrol, many people say they just never knew about CAP and what it does. Let’s spread the word… Recruiting is everyone’s ‘Specialty’, so bring a friend to CAP. If you need some Recruiting Info, come by the office to pick up a brochure.
- Lt Brad Wallace has now assumed the duties of a Wing AE Officer (Internal). As such he will be working to help provide support and AE training to all units in the KY Wing.
- Hopefully, the recent ‘Blizzard of 2008’ marks the last big snow event for the season and Spring will be here soon. Now is the time to start working on ES qualifications and training. In particular, this brings up the need for all ES support personnel to complete ES 116? If you haven’t done this, why not start on it now? It's the basic step for ES work and the best time to do it is before you need it.
- In the works is a new Senior Program for KY 050. Included in this idea is training and exercises geared to Senior members once or twice a month. Sound like a good plan? If so, let the Squadron Commander know your thoughts and ideas.
- The CAP Corporate Learning Course (CLC) is scheduled for 15-16 MAR, and will be held at Wing HQ in Frankfort. There are a few seats left so if you want to attend, get a From 17 off to the Lt Col Osbone, Chief of Staff, and plan to go. (You don’t have to have attended SLS first to attend CLC).
- Summer Encampment time is quickly approaching. Interested in attending? Contact your chain of command to get details.
